Sir,

I am directed by the Earl of Crews to

inform you that the post of First Assistant Director

of Public Works in Hong Kong is vacant and that the

Covernor of Ceylon was asked if he could recommend

a suitable candidate. The Governor, in accordance

with the advice of the acting Director of Public Works,

has recommended the appointment of Mr A.F.Churchill,

First Crade District Engineer, Ceylon.

I am to transmit to you the accompanying

copy of a minute by the Director of Public Works of

Hong Kong, setting forth the qualifications required

for the appointment, and the duties undertaken by the

Public Works Department: and to say that Lord Crewe

would be glad to learn whether in view of this minute

you concur in thinking that Mr Churchill would be

suitable for the post.
